Fellow NetBackup users, administrators, and Perl hackers:
NBUX 0.5 has escaped from the zoo and is available now at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nbux/
New features since version 0.4 include:
+ Defaults may now be overridden via the nbux.conf file.
+ Command profiles may be created to re-define where NBUX gets command input.
+ NBUX Remote Agent service, "nbuxd", and "nbuxremote" command for remote
NetBackup
monitoring and reporting without the need for GDM (tested on both Unix
and NT.)
NOTE: The nbuxd agent is included as a suitable means of remote access
where no other means
are available. Sites that have standardized on SSH may wish to define a
command profile to use
that instead. NBUX intends to be flexible in this regard so it may fit
into site security schemes.
Bugfixes since version 0.4 include:
- Parsing bugfix to bpdbjobs where output includes escaped-commas
(backported to 0.4)
- Bugfixes related to identifying the NetBackup install directory on Windows.
- Significant bugfixes to the vmquery() and vmpool() functions.
Enhancements that are on the roadmap, but did not make this release include:
(kinda obvious where all this is going, though, isn't it?)
+ Schemas and scripts for populating SQL databases with NetBackup data in
the same fashion as
NetBackup Advanced Reporter.
+ Front-ends and reporting samples built on top of a database back-end.
I'm very excited about the possibilities this release offers for building
true enterprise management
and reporting functionality around NetBackup. With remote accessibility
comes the ability to get
a handle on distributed servers and backup domains as well as do some truly
interesting stuff with
the data that is collected.
