I don't have a GUI here in front of me, but you should be able to do this in
three steps instead of one, and still be done in under a minute or two.
Instead of doing the robot inventory, do the new media option. Then you
should be able to specify the starting slot, the prefix, and the number of
media being inserted. You can still throw all 10 tapes in at once, and just
include one prefix at a time for your three new media procedures.

It's been a while, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,

Hi,expert:

I am replacing legato networker with our NBU for one client. The client
is familiar with networker and want to remain one function of networker as
following:

The tape library has only ten slots and is divided into 3 volume pools, one
is oracle, another is sybase, the third is data.
Every month the client will draw all ten tapes without barcode from tape
library and insert new ten tapes without barcode for tapes are full.
Networker can identify tape with slot position.
For example, if one tape is in slot 5 , belongs to oracle pool and is
allocated with one mediaid ORAXXX,
when the client draws this tape and inserts one new tape into slot 5,
networker will allocate oracle pool to this tape automatically after robot
inventory.
And this tape will be allocated with one mediaid ORA(XXX+1).
For another instance, if one tape is in slot 6 ,belongs to sybase pool and
is allocated with one mediaid SYBXXX,
when the client draws this tape and inserts one new tape into slot 6,
networker will allocate sybase pool to this tape automatically after robot
inventory.
And this tape will be allocated with one mediaid SYB(XXX+1).
That means user can draw all ten tapes and insert ten new tapes, after robot
inventory, all property of tape will remain(mediaid prefix, pool)

With NBU, if the client draw all ten tapes and insert ten new tapes, I
execute robot inventory with update option,
all ten new tapes will have the prefix of same name. For example , all have
the prefix of ORAXXX or SYBXXX.
I could not make ten tapes belong to different pools automatically.
It seems barcode rule is useless.
Is there any method to remain the mediaid prefix and pool property when
replacing old tapes?
The client don't like to change tape property or new one volume manually
every month.
