Thanks Scott. I tried it on a test client and I couldn't browse the old
backups that had been done on it for the past 2 months. Only the new stuff
showed up. That is what I am trying to avoid. The manuals don't really cover
that "feature" :)

Also I forgot to mention that I would like to keep the client's hostname
the same seeing as it is the same machine and has the same data on it just
an upgraded OS.

I was hoping for a alternate method that wouldn't trash the ability to
browse for restores.

I am running 3.4 patched to 697

Tim,
There is a special note in the 3.2 admin guide on page 100 that addresses
this situation, "To change client names or operating systems definitions,
first delete the clients from a class and then re-add them with their new
name or operating system. Also reinstall NetBackup client software on the
affected clients." I am sure that you won't have to reinstall since you
aren't actually changing the binaries.

The 3.4 admin guide also notes deleting clients from a class on page 62.

Hope this helps.

I know that Solaris 8 and 7 are just links to the Solaris 2.6 binaries
but....

we have recently upgraded several clients from 2.6 to 8 and I want to update

netbackup with the correct information. The only way I can see to do this is

to delete the old client and add it again as a new client.

1) Is there a way to change the OS type of a client on the master?

2) If I delete the client then add it what do I lose? I assume I can't
browse for restores for the client if I delete it.

Thanks
