You are correct in the case of index and mm folder in older version. but
from 6.3 and up you can just copy them to a different location. This willl
not work if you are doing a cross platfor copy (Unix to Windows)

Res keep track of the client id's, group, other info.

Yes 2 Servers has different hostid's

as I said for the first time you bring the RES it will have the same hostid
(SERVER). Here you delete the LIC from the command line.
Shutdown the NEW NW Server.
nsradmin -d filepath where the lic in is
delete it
copy the RES over

This ensure that the new BACKUPSERVER LIC but with all the info regarding
the group, client, pools, jukebox, other stuff is brought over.

When ever you bring ove MM and index folder this is where the correlation
actually occures. Only Catch is for ex: Your RES is a month old. and you
have been adding client to your prod(server) and backing them up.
When you bring the MM and Index files over the Dev(Backup Server) does not
know about the client in the past month. So if you create those clients with
the same client ID on DEV you will be able to recover / browse the client up
to the point of MM and Index.
