Everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that a major breakthrough for issues we have
had with backing up Exchange with NMM took place
on Friday. EMC tech support along with a subject matter expert found that
backups using NMM were not being saved properly to the virtual cluster client,
but rather to the mailbox server client. This made it impossible to browse any
previous backups of Exchange.

The issue: We use a 3rd party application called Active Batch to do our backup
job processing and cloning. It has a lot more flexibility to start savegroups
as one finishes, so we have never made use of the Networker GUI scheduling.
That, it seems, is the problem. There is some issue where Powersnap (which is
part of the NMM install) does not work properly outside of being run within the
Networker GUI. Since all we were doing was running the savegrp from a command
line from within Active Batch, I am not sure of the exact reason, but I have
asked for EMC support to respond to me with a specific explanation of this
issue.

We are still seeing that reboots of active and passive node in our environment
is sometimes causing a file that contains the Clariion username and password
(emcpwddb.dat) to get corrupted. I still have an open case about this issue.

Nonetheless, a huge breakthrough for us and for them too, I think.
