I have had similar issues with indexes not completing, starting back in
December [all clients not just NDMP].  The first time it was fixed by
upping the parallelisms on the client from 4 to 6 or so.  It then
started up again the beginning of April.  I have an open call to EMC,
and they only way to get around this is shutdown nsr then reboot the
server.  If its not rebooted then the indexes will not complete.  

We've messed with server parallelism, client and group with very little
luck.  We are using 7.3.3 on solaris.

Yes to NAS vendor support the atar command automatically takes care of  
open file handle issues and the like.
