This is now the 2nd time I have tried this patch (to fix the truncated
savegrp reporting). Both times, my NetWorker server has crashed in the
night, with messages that it could not connect to the RPC server. It seems
that the management console can't find the NetWorker server. And neither
can any clients - I got no backup at all last night.
I verified that I followed the instructions - I stopped all services; I
installed the 4 new files; I then even rebooted the NetWorker server
(rather than just restarting services). Our backup cycle starts at 6PM.
This morning I found the message about not being able to connect to the
RPC server. I rebooted the NetWorker server. Upon reboot, I attempted to
go into the Management Console. Windows told me that a serious error had
occurred in the NetWorker program at 6:44PM (so soon after the backups
started).

<snip>
I've backed out the hotfix, and restarted the server. I may contact EMC
about it, but this is now the 2nd time this has failed. (that's why it
took me so long to apply the patch, Stan - the first time it failed, I
just figured I missed a step in applying it).
I've gone over the instructions, and they're clear enough - stop services;
replace files; restart services (or in my case, reboot). The patch speaks
only of the NetWorker server - it says nothing about any changes on any
clients or storage nodes, so what I did should have worked.
Anyone successfully using this patch on Win2003 Entrerpise Server SP2 (32
bit)?
