Older versions of networker did use a
more sequential numbering for ssids, but that hasn't been true since at
least 6.0.  The sequential numbering was a problem because it made it
much more likely that you'd have ssid collisions if you needed to import
a foreign tape.

Is that why they changed it?  I had always wondered why they went to
today's seemingly random ssid scheme.
