Hi

[What follows is not a sales pitch for my company's product, as I feel
that would violate the tone of this list. It is just some accurate
facts about one company's product that I'm aware of.]

The EMC Disk Library seems to do what you want. It supports both local
virtual tape-to-physical tape copies, as well as local virtual
tape-to-remote virtual tape copies.

In fact, you can create these copies in two different ways:
- use the EDL export (local copy) and remote copy functions to make the
copies; this happens without the involvement of any backup software
- use the embedded NetWorker storage node software inside the EDL to
make the copies. This uses standard NetWorker cloning functions for both
the local and remote copies (yep, NetWorker can clone between storage
nodes over an IP link). The big advantage here is that the backup
software knows that copies have been made, and where they are located.

Oh Terry you are from emc. I was looking for a unbiased response....lol
ok just kidding

We are looking to deploy a VTL where we can replicate to our DR site
over IP, with local tape vaulting from virtual tape to physical tape.

Hi Coty

What features are you looking for in a virtual tape library solution?

Or, what problems are you looking to solve?

Thanks!

Hi,

I am looking for some feedback on VTL libraries. I am currently looking
at the SUN VTL solution. Is anyone using it and what is your experience.
I was looking to compare the SUN vtl to the EMC DL. They both are using
the falconstor software.
