Hello,
We will be getting NetApp soon, however, from what i know, Directed 
recovery for NDMP  is only possible if the device you are recovering too  
has matching DATA ONTAP versions\firmware etc to the one you backed up 
from.
Check Networker admin guide also.
Check the NetAPP site\library sections, they have lots of how toos.
