Folks,

We had a total failure of a RAID array on our main server. After it took
the IBM tech's 2 days to get the hardware fixed we've started a restore and
it's going a lot slower than we'd like (it'll take 2 or 3 days to restore at
the present rate). I wondered it anyone out there would have any
suggestions for speeding up the process. At this point though I'm reluctant
to stop the restore we've got going unless I'm pretty sure I can improve the
speed enough to make a difference.

Our systems are as follows:

Backup Server: Windows 2K, Legato 6.1.3 (I know I need to upgrade, it'll
happen in the next 3 months), Spectralogic 10K tape library with 2 AIT-2
tape drives, 100M network connection.

Server being restored: Windows 2K, Legato 6.1.3, RAID array with 3 logical
drives (E:, F:, G:), 100M networking. The system disk was ok.

We have about 250GB to restore and it appears to be going at about 2GB/hour
at this point.

To restore the drives we just opened Networker User on the restore system,
clicked on the 3 drives and told it to start.

I could give more information but it's probably better to answer any
specific questions you may have.

We will be upgrading to AIT-4 tapes and Networker 7.x before too long but
that doesn't do us any good now :-(

Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated. It's probably too late
for this restore but could be useful for future reference.

Thanks, Dave
