Hello,

before I patch our production system from 6.1.3 to 6.1.4, I wanted to try
6.1.4 on a test system (fresh installation, Linux, Overland LibraryPro +
one
AIT-2 drive).

And here, with a fresh installed system, right after having labeled the 1st
tape, I get only this error:

box_unload: unload failure detected - retrying
box_unload: retry: start time = 1072113735
box_unload: retry: sleeping 30
box_unload: retry: failed - will retry

I see this error occasionally on our production system also (StorageTek
L700e + 5 LTO-1 drives).

What is wrong here? Why is this out-of-the-box setup not working?

This is usually related to the time taken for the drive to unload the
tape from the drive before the robotics move it back to the slot. You
need to amend the unload_sleep parameter. This value varies between
drive types, that's why it doesn't work "out-of-the-box". I expect
Legato _could_ make this more intelligent by pre-configuring the
timeouts based on drive type, but I'm sure they couldn't get this right
all the time, so it wouldn't keep everyone happy.
