We have verified this to work in our environment:

1.) Remove the volumes file AND media index entries from the Networker Media
DB.
2.) Label as new tape with an nsrjb -L or through the GUI.

NetWorker essential thinks it is a new tape and will label it with your
current block size.

So an "mt rewind" and "tar" over the tape is really not necessary.

Let me know what you guys and gals think.

Thanks

A definitive answer would be nice.

What I do is delete the volume from the media database. I then place the
volume in a tape drive and rewind it, then tar a small file to it, rewind
it, make sure the file was indeed tarred to it, then I unload it. Once
that's done, I either allow auto-media management to label the tape or I
label it myself with "nsrjb -L" if I want it to go into a specific tape
pool.
