David,

For Exch. 5.5 (luckily) the restore process is fairly straightforward. (as
you have said)

As long as you have the "same" clientname on the backup server (that has the
same name as well as the previous backup server - all easily set up). Then
there shouldn't be any issues with doing a full recover.

Sometimes I have to additionally run some exchange integrity checks etc -
but we always (touch wood) get exch. 5.5 back.

We have our issues with Exch2000 - because then you need a PDC (or
replicated BDC) same forest, same domain, same SID's ... <sigh> .. the list
goes.

Regards,
Riaan

We are preparing to restore an old backup to a temporary Exchange server on
a private network. The private network has an Exchange server with Legato's
Exchange agent, similar disk capacity, same hostname, a PDC from the live
network, DNS and the backup server (Solaris 2.7 Networker 6.1.3 and moving
the interface from the live network to the private network).

The documentation is straightforward (Exchange 2.0 Admin Guide) and chapter
six steps through this process but I'd like to know if this works as
advertised.

My questions:
Are there any problems with this method for recovery?
So long as the backup server resolves the recover Exchange server will there
be no issues recovering with the agent?

Thanks
David
