If you are getting more than the default capacity on your tapes, then the
tape drive compression is working.

There are a number of reasons the compression may not be that great.

1. Data already compressed on hard disk.
2. Types of files being backed up.
3. Poor streaming of data.
4. These drives also had problems when they first came out, might pay to
check your firmware version as well. Quantum have a diagnosis application on
their website for these drives.

You could also create a very large text file and test the compression rate.

How do I make sure that tape drives attached to Win2K servers, use
compression?

I am able to use only 40 - 45 GB on a DLT8000, where I want to use 60 -
80GB using compression. I thought that Networker was picking up this info
from the OS and drivers?
