Sony hasn't given up the race. Their 500 GB native Super AIT drives
should be available this Spring:

<snip>
LTO1 15MB/sec 100GB
LTO2 30MB/sec 100GB
Don't think LTO2 is backward compatible with LTO1
LT02 30MB/s (IBM LTO2 35 MB/s) to LTO2 media 200GB native
LTO2 is ultrium level 2
ultrium level 3 will do 40-80MB/s 400GB native
ultrium level 4 will do 80-160MB/s 800GB native
As what u see, SDLT and LTO are in the race to each other. Personally I am
quite happy working with SDLT320.
Cheers...
Robert
I agree about the race, but I'm (currently) backing LTO it generally comes
out earlier with the high speed devices and slightly lags in capacity.
Most importantly with 30-40 IBM LTO drives in fairly heavy use we are
seeing a lot less problems than we got with DLT7000's.
