I have never used a Library without barcode reader support. However, the
command I specified below definitely works as described by me on a library
with barcode reader support. I use it to select particular drives to use in
our library as it is shared by the server and a storage node and I like to
leave one drive available for each for restores when labelling or
inventorying.
I thought I might quote from the Field Help of a 6.1.1 server.

Note that some jukeboxes can only handle one operation at a time.

Interestingly it does not mention anything about drive numbers, in fact does
not even mention drives.
It would also seem to shed very little light on our current discussion.

I have never tried a label operation from the command line, but I have
done an inventory on as many as 10 slots from the command line, and I
have never once seen NetWorker use more than one device even with max
parallelism set to as high as 3, as is the case with our LTO library
with three LTO drives. I thought you had to specify the device, in which
case it seems unlikely that NetWorker would use more than the one
specified. If NetWorker will in fact do what you say, what will happen
if you are not using bar codes? What would prevent tapes from being
labeled out of sequence if you have multiple label operations going on
at one time? I thought that the max parellism simply meant that you
could launch that many separate nsrjb processes, each inventorying or
labeling to a separate device that none of the other nsrjb processes was
currently using, but you would have to specify the device per nsrjb
process, not just launch one and expect it to somehow fork itself to the
other drives. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here? I'm not trying
to beat a dead horse, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing out
on something that I could be taking advantage of.
