Not quite what you asked for (haven't used the shell/web interface) but
IBMtapeutil  (you did not say what platform - mine are Linux) has
functions to "Load Tape" and "Unload Tape" as well as "Reset Drive"

Is there a way to mount / dismount volumes in a particular drive in a 3494
library from the shell  prompt?
I need to run tests on a ts1120 drive and the library is in a remote
location with no personell.
