Hi Richard!
Bare in mind that Michelle wants here library microcode upgraded, not the
drive microcode, which indeed can be done from the host or directly from a
CE tape.
Also, one cannot really call a 3575 a modern library, can you? ;-)
Kindest regards,

My gullibility meter just went off the scale...
I don't know of any modern library or like device where a CE arrives and
replaces a chip to upgrade microcode. When they do it, its via an FMR
(Field
Microcode Replacement) tape, as the 3575 manuals describe. But that's the
hand-carry method: microcode can also be installed from a host file, as
through
OS commands, or utilities like the 'tapeutil' command...in its Tape Drive
Service
Aids section, Microcode Load (Download microcode from a host file or
diskette to
tape device via SCSI bus). It's not always something that the customer
customarily does, but can certainly be done. In any case, your CE should be
showing up whenever your library is ripe for a microcode update, to
volunteer
to do the deed for you: you should not have to explore for the way to do
this.
Call IBM Service and talk to them about this.
