Mario,

this is your SIXTH post on ADSM-L list with same problem after twelve
replies. Before to submit the same question for seventh time read
carefully TSM Quick Start Manual and especially Chapter 2, Installing
Tivoli Storage Manager, Migrating to Tivoli Storage Manager Version 4.2
!!!
Please understand the facts:
- to upgrade TSM server preserving DB contents you need to uninstall old
version, install new version in the same directory (and usually no need
for "dsmserv upgrade db").
- to move TSM DB from one server to another both *SHOULD* be the same
platform+version/release/maintenance, period !
Restore of v4.1.x DB over v4.2.y server would *NOT* work, restore of
v4.2.x DB over v4.1.y server would *NOT* work, restore of Solaris DB on
Windows box will *not* work, etc. All those are design limitations and are
clearly described in all TSM manuals.

I do not know who is that "someone from Tivoli" person and can he/she overcome
those limitations. I am afraid no one on
this list can.

Subject: upgrade db & ANR9999D error

Hi list,

What is happening is this:

1- I had successfully backed up the TSM 4.1.3 database to a mapped drive
(devtype=file) at a machine with TSM Server 4.2.0
2- The restore db worked fine but when I tried to use the "dsmserv upgrade
db" command I received the following error:

ANR9999D tb.c(784): ThreadId<0> Column count mismatch for table
Administrative-
.Attributes - expected 24, found 23
ANR9999D adminit.c(639): ThreadId<0> Error 18 opening table
Administrative.Att-
ributes.

The above error also occurs when you simply type dsmserv at the DOS
command
prompt and press <ENTER>.

I have been told that to upgrade the TSM version I should set up a new
machine with the TSM 4.1.3 server, perform the above procedures of
backup/restore db and then install the new TSM 4.2.X or 5.1.X over it.

On the other hand, someone from Tivoli told me that the dsmserv upgrade db
command works just fine and that what I did would work.

Any help is apreciated.

Thank you.
