If you change the management class in include list but the file is already
deleted it would not rebind.
But if you change copygroup settings *without* renaming the class, those
settings will apply for *all* objects bound to that class - past and
future, active and inactive.
Thus the only answer to the initial question is (as Andy already pointed)
creation of new node name. After old retension interval have passed the
old node name filesets can be deleted.

OK, if you create a new policy domain or policy set or change the
management
class name, our experience is everything gets rebound and the retentions
changed on previous backups.

If you just change the retention in the existing policy domain/policy set
and management class without changing their names then the existing
backups
are not affected and the new backups get the new retentions.

I could be all wrong about this. So, lets see what others say. The
reason
is if a file gets deleted the new deleted file policy would go into effect
not the old. There may be other considerations I have not thought of and
may experience may be just a fluke.

I want to keep my current backups with the current retention settings,
which
are set to say 6 months. I also want to continue the same backups but now
maintain a different retention setting of only 28 days from now on.

How do I set this up so the backups I already have maintain their 6 month
policy bindings but new backups are now bind to the new 28 days policies?

I guess I need to set up a new domain, but does it matter what names I
assign to the policy sets?

Marc.
