Hi *SM-ers!
I have a 3494 library with two units. Last weekend TSM lost all contact with
it after an I/O error on a tape.
The log showed:
ANR8302E I/O error on drive RMT8 (/dev/rmt8) (OP=LOADDISPLAY, CC=0, KEY=0B,
ASC=44, ASCQ=00,
SENSE=71.00.0B.00.00.00.00.58.00.00.00.00.44.00.FF.03.C9.08.20.55.00.02.01.4
0.00.00.00.00.00.00.C0.F0.0B.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00
.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.32.35.
44.20.20.20.20.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00.00,
Description=An undetermined error has occurred). Refer to Appendix B in the
'Messages' manual for recommended action.
And then the part that worries me:
07/13/2001 21:19:34 ANR8469E Dismount of 3590 volume 070127 from drive RMT8
(/dev/rmt8) in library 3494LIB-L1 failed.
07/13/2001 21:19:34 ANR8311E An I/O error occurred while accessing drive
RMT8 (/dev/rmt8) for QRYINQUIRY operation, errno = 9.
07/13/2001 21:19:34 ANR8469E Dismount of 3590 volume 070127 from drive RMT8
(/dev/rmt8) in library 3494LIB-L1 failed.
07/13/2001 21:19:35 ANR9999D mmslib.c(6552): Entry not found in activity
list; lib=3494LIB-L1, vol=070127.
This rendered the unit offline! I have seen this before: I/O errors which
result in an unmount failure and thus resulting in an offline unit.
In this case, both units went offline and numerous messages followed:
ANR9999D pvrmp.c(1198): Unable to find idle mountpoint, devClass=10,
mountLimit=2, mpOpen=0, mpIdle=1.
The result was a full diskpool, hanging oracle backups, full Oracle recovery
logs and thus freezing production databases, a real mess!
Has anybody seen this too? Why does an I/O error result in a unmount
failure?
Kindest regards,
Eric van Loon
