David,

What version of TDP for Exchange are you running?
Make sure you have version 1.1.1.01.

Then, make sure you are logged into an account that has
the correct permissions to do backup and restore...
(This is probably causing the unknown Exchange API
error message.)

You cannot restore a directory database to an alternate server.
You can restore the IS, then run DSIS consistency checker,
which populates the Directory with information from the restored
Information Store database.

Take a look at the User's Guide, Appendix B Advanced Restore Procedures.

Thanks,

Del

Subject: Exchange 5.5 mailbox restore

We are trying to restore a mailbox on the Exchange server. I have
looked all the documentation I can find and I'm stumped on the problem we
are having.
Here's the situation, the live server is WinNT 4.0 SP5 running
Exchange 5.5 SP3. We are trying to restore the data to another temporary
server running the same versions and SP levels and do the exporting of the
particular mailbox file.
The hardware is not the same, however the drives are configured the
same. I have worked with our Exchange guys and they made sure that the two
servers are as identical as possible.
Also, we were running Exchange 4.0 on the live server and did an
upgrade to 5.5. This was done several months before we even had the ADSM
product. The temp server was loaded with Exchange 4.0 and then we ran the
upgrade to 5.5 and added SP3 to bring it to the same level as the live
machine.
We are currently trying to do the restore to the temp server and we
are getting an error on the restore. If I try to restore the directory and
the Information Store for the date we want I get an error," ACN4218E
Directory databases can only be restored to their originating Exchange
Server".
If I try to do only the Information Store I get a different error,
"ACN4226E An unknown Exchange API error has occurred."
        Any ideas??
