Don't start it from the command line.  I use SNMP and I start it from the
command menu of the main screen.  From there you can also send test traps...

One word of caution.  Whenever we have work done on our library, I seem to loose
the route I defined to my Netview server.  the  3494 is on a private ethernet so
I had to define a special route.  I am constantly having to re-add it...
