You guys are great!  I got about 4 responses already - and you were all on
target.  Deleting the volume with discarddata=yes did not work (I had tried
that first), as ADSM did not know about the volume.  As it turned out, the
rest of the volumes were all database backups, so deleting the volume
history from previous to 10 days back with type=dbbackup scratched
everything but 4 volumes.  Then I checked them all into the library as
scratch.
