Christoph, we are pre-implementation with ADSM, but have run successful
tests on an Informix database (server and database both under AIX).  Dale
Forrey, our DBA, wrote this response to your questions:

   "If you are running version 7.21 or later of Informix and have version
2.5 or later of the ADSM client software than you have everything you need
to back up Informix with ADSM. With version 7.21 and later of Informix
there is a utility called ONBAR. The documentation for the utility should
be on the documentation CD that came with the product.  The title is
Informix-Online Dynamic Server Backup and Restore Guide. This manual will
describe the basics of how the utility works with ADSM and the syntax to
use with the utility.

   Additionally you should get hold of the IBM Redbook titled Using ADSM to
Back Up Databases.  This is available for download from the IBM Redbook web
site.  Chapter 6 of this book covers the details of what you will need to
do to get ONBAR talking to ADSM.

   The ONBAR utility works much like the ONTAPE utility.  We have tested a
level 0 backup and logical log backups.  We have used the ADSM scheduler to
do the full backups and the log_full.sh alarm program to start the logical
log backups.  We have also done a full database restore.  All of this has
worked without a problem.  We do not yet have a production implementation
of this backup process but we are looking forward to it."
