The /var/adm/ras tape-oriented files are produced by the device drivers.
There is basic info about them in the device drivers manual
"IBM SCSI Tape Drive, Medium Changer, and Library Device Drivers" (GC35-0154),
which is available online in the storsys FTP site's devdrvr directory.
Refer to Chapter 13, for example.
