SAN JOSE, Calif., ....International Business Machine Corporation (IBM)
announced that it is providing client communication software which
allows use of the ADSTAR* Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM),
Version 1, Release 1 and Release 2, software with Microsoft** LAN
Manager 2.2 TCP/IP protocol for the MS** OS/2* 1.3 Operating Systems.
IBM plans to license this client communications software at no
additional charge through December 31, 1995. In addition, IBM plans
to withdraw all service and support for this program on April 30, 1996.
The ADSM family of software products provides centrally managed,
highly automated backup and archive functions for distributed
workstations and LAN file servers. With the ADSM hierarchical storage
manager, data is managed through the storage hierarchy to provide cost
effective utilization of storage resources.
This support will enable customers to backup or restore local data
on Microsoft** LAN Manager 2.2 TCP/IP for the MS** OS/2* 1.3 to or
from
ADSM VM, MVS, AIX*, and OS/2* servers.
Limitations/Restrictions: The backup and restore of resource
permissions for Microsoft** LAN Manager 2.2 for the MS** OS/2* 1.3
is not supported. The BACKACC and RESTACC commands must be used with
ADSM backup and restore functions to backup and restore the resource
permissions on the local HPFS386 drives.
Please note that although there is no charge for the client
communication software, each backup-archive client must be within the
number of clients that your license allows you to register with the
ADSM server.
IBM plans to make available the ADSM client communication program
for Microsoft** LAN Manager 2.2 TCP/IP protocol for the MS** OS/2*
1.3
Operating System on a ftp server (INTERNET) and CompuServe** through
December 31, 1995.
