John, The insight manager MIBs can found on the Compaq Management CD
that should have come with your Server. You will need to change the SNMP
config. on the server to forward traps to your NetView server and
possibly customize the cpq traps. We also have learned that there is
not a lot of smarts regarding insight manager and NetView at Compaq
support. Never believe what they tell you until your sales rep gets you
in touch with a developer.

Subject: Compaq Insight

Hi,
We are looking into the possibility of managing our Compaq servers by
integrating Compaq Insight into Netview. However, the latest Compaq
Insight Manager for TME10 Netview does not support our V5.0 production
release of Netview. We understand that the Compaq Insight Console is
free and we don't actually need to integrate Compaq Insight into
Netview. But we do not want to maintain another management platform
by using the Compaq Insight Console for e-mail and pager notification,
instead we want to consolidate our management function into Netview.
Having a closer look at Compaq Insight, we are under the impression
that the underlining mechanics of Compaq Insight is SNMP. Therefore,
we contemplate on obtaining just the Compaq Insight MIB from Compaq
and have these MIB loaded into Netview. Then theoretically, we can
direct all Compaq servers to send traps to Netview and we can make use
of the automation richness available in Netview for filtering,
correlation, notification etc.
However, I called up Compaq regarding this concept but there is no
such thing as just the Compaq Insight MIB download. I wonder if
anyone can provide suggestion along this line of thought ? Any
suggestion with regard to integrating Compaq Insight into Netview ?

Thanks John Luk, Senior Network Specialist. APWSS.
