Are you referring to NDMP backups?

Variables set, such as “set HIST=no” or “set SNAPSURE=y” are configured in the backup policy file list and just passed along to the NDMP device. It’s up to the NDMP device to understand them and use them.

You need to refer to the documentation for the NDMP device for more information on supported values.

Where can I find information on the HIST variable in backup selections? Not finding it in the Symantec documentation. Need to better understand exactly what effects it has when set to NO.
