Re: [Veritas-bu] FINALLY DONE!!! 5.1 -> 6.5.2 Upgrade !

Simon,
You might want to look at putting the new logs on it’s own
volume (filespace) so if you fill the space you do not trash other things. You
can move it’s location to netbackup with a command.
The new logs can really grow if you have to debug a ndmp
problem.

Yes I got around it last week. and learned that unified logging is
a new feature ....... and chewing up disk space..
So now looking at articles on this and will disable / clean up
shortly.
Thanks, Simon

Simon,
This tripped me up too. The way virtual hostnames are defined has changed.
Check the "NBU High Availability Admin Guide", Appendix D -
"Enhanced media server configuration" starting on page 115.
The key is the new nbemmcmd.
Cheers,
Dean

All
Just
wanted to share with you my experience of the in place upgrade for NBU 5.1 MP7
to 6.5.2
Original
Plan: Upgrade Master only, then do SAN Media Servers at a later date.
However,
due to issues with one Media Server and the nbpushdata command having problems
communicating with one Media Server (Even though NBCC worked like a charm!), an
issue had arisen that required Symantec Help!
In
the end, it was easier to do an inplace upgrade for everything (Did not make me
popular but its done!) and so far its gone ok-ish!
Main
problem was 1 Media Server was offline, refused to do restores or backups.
Turned out it was only Active for disks. Problem tied down to a corrupt ltid
and oprd processes. These got repaired by a manual replacement of the files. No
idea why it happened, as the box in question installed and upgraded flawlessly!
One
major problem I have seen is with my Win2k3 Active/Passive Mail Cluster. Now
reading some notes, its clear something has changed in terms of how 6.5 handles
Virtual Server Names, but if anyone can shed any light on this, it would be
appreciated.
The
5.1 Topology used to show the NODE1 and NODE2 as physical SSO SAN MEDIA
SERVERS. I used the command BPSTUADD to create a Virtual Storage Unit called
MAIL. This used to appear in the topology of Activity Monitor.
Now,
it appears, when I run the backup, the topology shows the Virtual Name MAIL as
a Computer Icon. As if it is doing the backups over the LAN. Worse still, the
throughput is showing speeds as if it is LAN Based Backups !!
Not
sure why this has happened, but if anyone has a Mail System in a 2-node cluster
and was on 5.1 and now moved to 6.5, I would be interested to hear how yours is
working!
Thanks
!
Regards
Simon
