Logs show – connection reset by peer, however I don't agree with this as the backup is taking place locally.
In order for backups to run, the media server *HAS* to communicate with the master server during the backup. Perhaps it's the master/media connection that's being reset? Have you checked the logs on the master too?
Also, you should realize that all support for 5.1 will end in another month or so.

What OS is the Media Server? What version of NBU?
What did the logs show?

Subject: [Veritas-bu] error 13 file read failed
Hi,
I have been experiencing intermittent error 13 on the backups of a certain client. The error only occurs when performing full backups. Note that this client is a media server that backs itself up. I have tried all the recommendations as per the detailed troubleshooting for error 13 technote from Symantec, any suggestions?
Regards, Sumeeth Singh
