[Veritas-bu] Fronting backups with disk then bleeding off to tape.

Issues we have had using disk staing at 5.1MP4 include
o disk staging jobs returning with errors if
      - no images are found (i.e. staging is complete)
      - an image listed for duplication is not found (maybe it was
expired during the staging activity)
      - configured to do more staging jobs concurrently than there are
drives available (continually produces jobs which fail in error).
o Exchange backups failing because staging f/s runs out of space &
isn't cleared quickly enough (NBU clears the two oldest duplicated
images regardless of their size). Not *proved* that this was the
problem...
o Performance issues due to backup window overrun (out backups often
run on into the day) - and the disk array not being able to cope with
multiple writes and reads. Still struggling with this one....

Does anyone do this with a massive amount of data? Also, I noticed with

5.1MP4 its possible to use multiple streams to bleed from disk->tape but
I
was wondering how well this worked practice.

How many people bleed off to tape using 5.1MPx?
Using 6.0?

How well does it work under 6 vs. 5? I know there is a watermark
feature.
Also, how come when I bled data off to tape under 5.1MP4, it did not
remove the images from disk? Must I manually purge that data?

Thanks,

Justin.
