I worked for 5 years with Royal Caribbean who at the time was a HUGE CA
shop. (Unicenter, Arcserve, you name it.) Since then I've been
contracting with several companies who use Brightstore and pretty much
the software hasn't changed much (that I can see.) Job configuration is
a bit on the tedious side, and media management is downright deadly.
But once configured properly, the software is bulletproof. The catch
there really is "properly" because as with all CA software you have to
learn how to do it "the CA way" which usually involves hours of stress
and tech support and is rarely intuitive.
=20
For example, one client of mine (a regional bank in the US Southern
Market) couldn't get Brightstor to work as a local service with anything
other than an account called "Administrator." So despite the group
policy calling the administrator account on all servers something else,
the local server & client wouldn't work. Four hours of frustration and
tech support level 1, 2 and 3 later... we got a workaround and its
worked ever since.
=20
I can't really speak from a licensing perspective, I usually leave those
things up to the sales guy.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] CA BrightStor versus Netbackup...

Hi,

=20

Anyone worked with CA Brigtstor backup software that can compare these
two suits with each other?=20

I`am really feed up dealing with netbackup licence management... I like
CA solution where you buy ONE licence based on how many TB raw disk you
have, in that licence you can use how many agents as you like and so
on... For large companies I guess this is heaven.=20

On the other hand I don't know if the software works at all.. :-) =20

=20

Comments??
