Actually, all of the issues with VSP leaving behind
the cache files have been resolved in the latest
maintenance packs for the various versions. As for it
not backing up large database files, it was not
designed for and should not be used for that. In fact,
on file system backups the database folders should be
excluded as standard practice unless the databases are
being backed up flat. Otherwise a database agent
should be used in a different policy and you should
exclude the database files in the regular policy. VSP
can and should be used when needed and as long as you
are sometimes willing to do a little work tweaking
settings for individual situations it can work very
well. It has been my experience that there are very
few systems that require tweaking. As for the
reasoning behind putting the VSP settings in the
master server properties it was deemed easier to get
to everything in one place rather than having to click
on each client down the list to change the settings.
Hope this helps.
