Maybe setup a tpclean schedule like tpclean -F Tapedrives -n hours
put a tape in the robot and self clean after 25 hours?
Most cleaning tapes only last 20 times, they should go to NONE pool -

IF a cleaning tape is used more than the expired time then only dirt will
get on the heads. Cleaning tapes run to the last block then start over
distributing all dirt from the first block. Thats why a new tape takes only
seconds to clean and eject - old tapes take 7 - 12 minutes to clean and
eject - The longer the cleaning the older the tape.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but tpclean -L
displayscumulative mount times (in hours). Do this once a day, take
thedifference, and there you have it. If you have automatic
cleaningconfigured, note that the mount times will get reset upon
cleaning. Otherwise, use cron and schedule the cleaning "manually".
