The storage unit on duplications is only used to define the destination
drives. The source drive can be outside the STU. Make one drive in your
duplication STU and don't use the -mpx flag on duplications. The -mpx
should keep down the tendency to mount multiple source tapes and the single
destination drive should limit duplications to a serial behavior.

Tried that. I specified 2 drives in 2 different storage units. I then
kicked off-duplications the same unit (with only 2 drives attached.) Both
jobs executed and all 4 drives were used. It looks like that configuration
would keep backups and restores from using more than 2 drives but not
duplications. I need the duplications limited so that jobs don't fail due
to 219.

You can with an ADIC i2000 library..;-)

        I know shameless plug...forgive me...

Well, what you can do is create two storage units, both with a
maximum concurrent drive value of 2.

You won't necessarily be able to "specify" which 2 drives are
associated with which logical storage units...but you will achieve your
ultimate goal.
