Well David,
I think you're feeling better now, cause your logic makes sense to
me
and I feel ok. I was going to research it from that angle but, you
know, all the
cross-referencing you have to do of backupids, media ids, copy
numbers, dates,
did I have my brain when I did the dupe, etc.
To add to your suggested scenario of confusion, all I need to read
from
someone is that I will have problems restoring the images because
THERE IS NO NEGATIVE ONE DEVICE ON THE NBU SERVER YOU'RE
TRYING TO RESTORE TO. Just kidding,
I think.
Anyway thanks and I think Veritas should include this info in their
docs
with a nice "acknowledgment David A. Chapa"

BINGO, that makes perfect sense to me now.
I think that's why you are getting it.
An imported piece of media has much different characteristics than
before
when it was ACTIVE. Since you can import this from any NBU server to
any
NBU server, I'm assuming the logic here is that for an IMPORTED media
DWO
would have no real value since it may have been written on a device
not
configured in the current environment. Therefore, to limit confusion
(because if they left it in there someone else would be asking...HOW DO
I
KNOW THIS IS REALLY THE DEVICE IT WROTE IT TO? IMPORTED THIS FROM A
DIFFERENT SERVER) they replace the value with a -1
He shoots and HE.... anyone, anyone?

I do have a disk storage device configured. It was set up to do some
testing
when Netbackup was originally installed. I get the -1 info though,
after importing
expired duplicate images from the tape media and running the bpimmedia
report on
that tape media id.

Do you have a disk storage unit? I think some of my images written to
disk
have had a negative DWO.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Negative DWO value in Images on Media Report
I ran an Images on Media report against a mediaid that contains
duplicate
images. For some of the images the DWO (Device Written On) column
contains
a -1 value. I can't find anything about this when searching the
Veritas
Knowledge
Base or even a www search. How "negative" is this?
Thanks
