That's what the VM manual suggests but it's not the behavior I'm getting.
My tape drive manufacturer says the library is TapeAlert compatible, I see a
message logged to my /var/log directory but I don't see NB reacting.

BTW: NB 3.4 on Sol 2.6 with Overland Data Library Express Library.

I'm running an experiment now where I've set my cleaning freq to 0 to see
what happens.

It's worse than all that; you cannot really disable the tape-alert feature.
Even when you set the cleaning frequency to 100 (hours), if the drive
signals it needs cleaning after 50 hours, avrd will schedule a cleaning
cycle...

If you want to use tapealert feature, you have to disable the
frequence-based cleaning, which is set to 0 hours for your drive.

Is the tapealert feature a switchable option? My vendor tells me that our
library is compatible but NB doesn't seem to react.

I have frequence-based cleaning turned on and I also have a cron-job that
sweeps the UNIX log files for the library's cleaning request message, then
runs tpclean.

The manuals have much describing the tapealert feature but no reference on
how to
enable or disable that I can find.
