Ok, so it is fixed. Since so many folks offered suggestions (thanks
everyone!), I thought I'd send out the resolution.
The database was corrupt. Clearing the cache didn't fix the problem. That
was, however, the first thing that EMC support suggested. After reviewing the
logs, they recommended restoring from before the corruption occurred. Based on
messages in the logs, they suggested a date. Since we didn't have many users
set up in this environment, I uninstalled, removed the database and
re-installed. This was actually easier than restoring the database for this
particular environment.
I also tried just moving the database out of the way and restarting gst hoping
it would create a new, blank database. This didn't work but it was worth
trying :-)
If there are any EMC folks watching the list, I have a suggestion. There are
tools to deal with corruption in the client and media databases. According to
the support person I worked with, there are no such utilities for the NMC
database. Seems like this would be a useful tool / utility.
Thanks again everyone!

There have been no updates on the NMC's server - no OS updates, no security
patches, etc.

Teresa,
Your NMC database might be corrupt. If you have enough disk space, restore a
copy of it from the last known good backup and see if you can start off that.
Also, were any changes made on your NMC server lately? Any OS updates, security
patches, etc.?
