I would not use the word 'different' to describe a data format unless I
was comparing it to something...
 
 I believe the proper term is 'proprietary' , meaning that the unique
formatting used by Networker can only really be read / interpreted
properly by Networker software.

It is different - Legato calls it OTF (Open Tape Format).
