And it allows filesystems larger than 2TB. You can use NTFS with GPT; I 
am. In fact, why would you not use the native Windows NTFS filesystem on 
Windows? To use some other filesystem (like ext2 or whatever), you'd need 
special drivers, etc. And you might not get all the same security benefits 
for ACLs, etc.
