"nsrck -L7" recovers your indexes from media, using your media database
to find the backup of you index. But if these backups are expired, you
can't recover them using nsrck. Then you can find the volume with the
actual backup on (not the index backup) and use scanner to recreate the
index for whatever backups networker will encounter on the tape.
If the backups are still in
the media database but marked as recyclable, you can change the status
of the save set in the media DB, then run nsrck -L7.
Really? I don't think I've ever been able to successfully change the
status of a save set (using nsrmm) after it's recycleable. NetWorker
always gives me:
Error changing browse and retention times for ssid 2039540737:
Cannot change browse/retention time of recyclable save set 2039540737
I've given up even trying, and in the past (pre 7.4.2) I've just gone
directly for nsrck -L7. That always used to do what I needed.
Since going to 7.4.2, we've had major problems with nsrck -L7 at our site.
The recover succeeds but the nsrindexasm fails when trying to merge in
the recovered index entries. I've had support calls open with EMC
essentially since April on this issue and it's what prompted us to give
7.4.4.4 a try, which brought us even more trouble.
I'm looking forward to the day when nsrck -L7 works for our site again...
