Hi Allan,

according to the manpage of the scanner command you can also perform a
restore without using the recover command.

Please open the manpage of the scanner (8) command and scroll down to the
maintenance section. There you can find
the following samples:

Extracting a save set for /usr and relocating to /mnt:

          scanner -S 637475597 /dev/nrst8 | uasm -rv -m /usr=/mnt
                                                               or
          scanner -S 637475597 /dev/nrst8 -x uasm -rv -m /usr=/mnt

Extracting all save sets from client mars and relocating to /a:

          scanner -c mars /dev/nrst8 -x uasm -rv -m/=/a

Maybe that helps, because yo do not need any new pools within your
Networker installation.

Kind Regards,

Stefan

[Networker] Media pool question - the perils of case!

Hi
(Networker 7.4.4 on Solaris 10)
I'm scanning some tapes in from a remote site to do a small restore of
some data.
The tapes in question were in a pool called 'monthend' at the remote
site.

Scanner reports when it first starts reading the tape that the pool
monthend should be created manually after the scan has finished (ie it
doesn't exist here).
We have a pool here called (unfortunately) 'Monthend' (ie a capital M
is the only difference).

The problem I'm having is that I can scan in the tapes, I can then
browse the index and mark files for restore (I'm doing a directed
recover),
but when I look at the 'Required Volumes' for the restore, it shows as
'Unknown'.

So, I thought I'd create a pool 'monthend' in NMC.
In my list of pools I see 'Monthend' but no 'monthend'
I select New, call the pool monthend, click OK, and it tells me I
already have a pool called that!

Anybody got any ideas how I can get out of this dilemma? Can tapes be
moved to new pools somehow?

Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheeers... Allan.
