There are no built in tools for working with tape libraries, but you can
investigate mtx. It's the open-source library manager that AMANDA uses.

Subject: [Networker] Troubleshooting a tape drive

Does anyone know how to use Red Hat linux commands to load/unload
tape cartridges between slots and tape drives in a Qualstar library?
I am trying to troubleshoot a problem where nsrjb is too slow, so I
need to verify that the OS can utilize the tape library. I know about
mt for writing and rewinding tapes in tape drives, but how do I get
the tape in a tape drive without nsrjb?

Google is not my friend on this issue!

Thanks
