Re: [Networker] DiskXtender Backup

Here is an example of how we use diskXtender and backup;
We used to backup every file before it came under diskXtender control to
ensure that we had one copy of the file on backup tape (using retention
of ten years). We did this by configuring the move rule to move no files
that had not been backed up, i.e. they had the archive bit. Once the
file has been moved using diskxtender legato networker will backup just
the stubb.
With time it became too difficult to manage this procedure as we have
too much data. We now rely on diskxtender for recovery of all our files.
We do this by ensuring that there is a copy of every tape onsite and
plan on implementing a third copy for offsite storage.
There is a utility within diskxtender that allows you to retrieve files
for backup but we have never used this because of the amount of data
involved. We backup the stubbs on a nightly basis following the drive
scan and move of any new data to tape. We have successfully restored the
file stubbs on several occasions when upgrading the server hardware.

Subject: [Networker] DiskXtender Backup
I am trying to backup some files that are on a DiskXtender partition.
I don't have enough space to back it all up at once (obviously or why
would
I use DX)
My idea is to
1) copy the specified files to a temporary directory on a non DX
partition
2) back the files in the temporary directory up
3) Delete the temporary directory
4) run a drive scan to reclaim the space on the DX extended
partition
Thoughts? Any Idea how to run a drive scan from a script?
