Have you already tried to use the tape device files using "dd" or

after such an incident ? What is the error you get from Solaris ? A
simple "cfgadm -c configure c[ctrl number]::[WWN of tape device]" or
"devfsadm" might help re-establishing the connection to the tape
device
I had two incidents where this happened since I asked about it. The
first time, I was able to use the tape drive just fine without
rebooting simply by using mt to rewind the tape first. I tried using
"nsrjb -u" before using mt, but all I got was failure errors. I don't
recall exactly what those errors said, but after I rewound the tape
with mt, the same "nsrjb -u" command worked fine. Go figure!
The second time, I forgot about using mt first and I manually
unloaded the tape using the tape libraries controls. Despite this,
the failed tape drive still worked anyway with "nsrjb -u" without
rebooting the server first even though I didn't do anything to
rectify the problem.
