When you try to change it in Networker 6.1.1 it says the media type is a
"non-changeable parameter" or something like that.
You have to remove the device and re-add it.  It shouldn't take you more
than 10 minutes.

In Media Devices (I'm on a Unix system) the media type appears to be
changable for each tape device.  You should be able to change it in the
GUI there.
