Mmrecov recovers your media database and your res files. These comprise your
NetWorker configuration in it's entirety. The nsrck -L7 is used to recover
the CFI for your backup clients. You will still be able to do save set
recoveries of your data. In the event that you need to do granular
recoveries, then indeed you will need to have the CFI's. In that case nsrck
-L7 is required.

I have no idea why Sun Tec hnical support would reject this solution, unless
they are looking specifically at the issues of recovering your indexes as
well..

Just wondering if any of you ever use "mmrecov" only
to recover the backup server in the event of crash and
data loss (say no file system survived)on the server?

The DR guide (networker 6.1) from Legato specifically
says that in such a situation, one need to run
"mmrecov" first, then "nsrck -L7". I have been able to
recover save sets without running the "nsrck" command
at all. but Sun technical support rejected this
approach as "uncertified". Can somebody shed some
light regarding the benefits and problems with this
approach ("mmrecov" without "nsrck")?

Thanks.
