Here is an example of our jobs right now:

1946 Full    D2D2T-Diff.2011-02-23_10.52.16_38 is waiting on max Storage jobs

1987 Full    D2D2T-Diff.2011-02-23_10.52.21_19 is waiting on max Storage jobs
1988 Full    D2D2T-Diff.2011-02-23_10.52.21_20 is waiting on max Storage jobs

1993 Full    Copia-serverD.2011-02-23_10.52.21_25 is waiting execution
1994 Full    D2D2T-Diff.2011-02-23_10.52.21_26 is waiting on max Storage jobs
1995 Full    Copia-serverE.2011-02-23_10.52.21_27 is waiting execution
1996 Full    D2D2T-Diff.2011-02-23_10.52.21_28 is waiting on max Storage jobs

1998 Full    D2D2T-Diff.2011-02-23_10.52.21_30 is waiting on max Storage jobs
1999 Full    Copia-serverG.2011-02-23_10.52.21_31 is waiting execution
2000 Full    Copia-serverH.2011-02-23_10.52.21_32 is waiting execution
2003         RestoreFiles.2011-02-23_15.41.37_44 is waiting for higher priority jobs to finish
2004 Full    Copia-serverG-test.2011-02-23_15.47.54_47 is waiting for higher priority jobs to finish

where all the Coppy jobs have priority 20, the 2003 job has priority 10 and the 2004 job has priority 6

job 1999 and 2004 use the same storage device, but 1999 ist not running, it's waiting on execution.

The jobs 1946 upto 2000 are using the tape device as one of their used devices, so I understand that they are all running one after another.

But the jobs 2004 and 2003, or at least the job 2003 should be able to run concurrently to the copy jobs as they have a different storage device,

or am I missing something?

thank you,
best regards

Subject: [Bacula-users] Concurrent Client Backups and Restores

Hello,

I have a question regarding restores of files. I have currently 6 concurrent jobs configured to backup to disk. After all my these backups are finished, I use a Copy job to copy these Backups on Disk to Tape.

This works very well so far, the only problem I have are with restore jobs.

1. it's completely irrelevant which priority I set for the restore job, it always says: Waiting for higher priority jobs to finish.
2. I can do concurrent backups, why can't I do a restore as well while a backup is running (whilest backup up a different volume, of course)?
3. Even when the copy job transfers copys from disk to tap (again, when, currently using a different volume) I can not restore from a disk volume.

I hope something is wrong in my configuration, because we have lot's of developers and at least once or twice a week we have to restore something for them. (Please don't tell me about version control systems, etc., there are policys in place and they are using windows tools and I am not in any position to change any of that).

I do not see the point why I should be able to do concurrent backups, but not a restore while the backups are running as well, as long as I am using a different volume and device.

My configuration:

Each client has it's own device in the Storage daemon.
Each client has it's own directory on disc where the Incrementals and Fullbackups are saved
We have one SCSI Tape device which is responsible for copying the backup jobs to tape

Is there any other way to create restores? Like, starting another file-daemon on another ip/port on the same machine?

best regards
Ray
